Ty Williams 3 TDS Help Knights Blow Past Red Devils On Nick Bazzle’s Return to Newton-Conover

From 1999 to 2011 (according to my personal Newton-Conover programs I’ve bought as a fan of high school football) One coach was associated with Newton-Conover football who battled other great Catawba County coaches such as Randy Lowman and Tom Brown. That lead Newton-Conover to 3 Western Regional Championships (2000 2008 2009) and one State Championship 2008. The great Nick Bazzle returned to Dick Gurley Stadium for the first time since October 28 2011(where Newton-Conover defeated West Caldwell 57 to 30 according to maxpreps).  Where he lead the Knights of North Lincoln to try to win sole possession of fist place.

As the game got started Newton- Conover would east of 3-4 of the first quarter. As the Red Devils would get multiple first downs thru the air and the ground advancing to the Knights redzone. But on 3rd and long Justice Craig would be picked off by North Lincoln’s Tyler Craig Rathbone and he would return it to the Knights 25 yard line with 3:58 in the first quarter. Few minutes later Ty Williams would break free on a 43 yard touchdown run (PAT good) Knights lead 7 to 0 with 2:22 left in the first quarter. After a Newton-Conover 3 and out. The mistakes would continue for the Red Devils as the punt would be blocked. This would lead to a Landon Beard 31 yard qb keeper with a 51.3 seconds left in the first quarter for a Knights touchdown (PAT good) Knights lead 14 to 0 after the first quarter.

After half of the 2nd quarter with no action.North Lincoln’s Jake Soorus would finally get on the loose on a 57 yard touchdown run (PAT good ). Knights lead 21 to 0 with 5:13 left in the second quarter. After another Newton-Conover 3 and out. Jake Soorus would get a first down and looked like he would get on the loose again but would trip . The Knights would then go through the air on the next play. As Landon Beard would hit Seth Whitley on 42 yard touchdown pass (PAT good)  Knights lead 28 to 0 with 3:59 in the second quarter. North Lincoln would extend thier lead a minute later as North Lincoln would get another blocked punt this time for the safety at the 2:34 mark in the second quarter. This would be your halftime score as the Knights lead 30 to,0 at the half.

During halftime the Red Devils would honor the 2008 2A State Championship team. The Red Devils could of probably used a few of those players as Ty Williams broke off on a big gain. Few plays later Williams would finish the drive on a 9 yard touchdown run (PAT no good) Knights now lead 36 to 0 with 9:06 left in the third quarter. Near the end of the third  quarter Ty Williams would mercy rule it on his short and third touchdown of the game (PAT good) Knights now lead 43 to 0. Newton-Conover would avoid the shutout though as they would score late in the fourth quarter to put the final at North Lincoln 43 Newton Conover 7.

With the win North Lincoln improves to (8-1) overall (5-0) in the South Fork 2A and has sole possession of first place. As they host county rival Lincolnton (who defeated Lake Norman Charter 40 to 37 Friday). Newton-Conover falls to (6-3) overall and (4-1) in the South Fork 2A  and is in a tight battle for 2nd place as they play the toughest schedule of all 4 teams in the race as they travel to Maiden (who defeated East Lincoln in a thriller 28 to 26 in a thriller Friday).
