SOUTH POINT DEFEATS NEIGHBORING STUART CRAMER

Red Raiders Breeze to 48-0 Win to Start Conference Campaign

By: Anthony Perkins

Belmont – The South Point Red Raiders hosted the Stuart Cramer Storm on Friday night for their home opener which was also the Big South Conference opener for both teams.  South Point scored early and often on Senior Night as they demolished a Stuart Cramer team that has been decimated this year by transfers, injuries and illness with a final score of 48-0.

The Red Raiders offense scored on each of their four first quarter possessions.  Their first score came on a three-play 40 yard drive that Harrison McKinney capped off with a 7-yard run.  Fullback Chaynce Ford followed up with a 42-yard jaunt to cap of a 2-play, 69-yard drive.  Wingback Dawson Tobin added a third touchdown on a 3-yard run to finish off a 66-yard drive and Ford closed out the first quarter touchdown barrage with an 18-yard touchdown run to complete a 40-yard drive.

Stuart Cramer was able to make a few first downs in the second quarter and finally crossed over mid-field however their deepest penetration into Red Raider territory was still over 30 yards away from paydirt.  South Point had only one possession in the second quarter but they made the most of their opportunity with a 56-yard drive that ended with a 24-yard touchdown toss from quarterback Patrick Blee to Jashaun Woods to go into the half with a 36-0 lead.

Coach Adam Hodge set the first line players out for the second half and South Point took the opening possession near mid-field after recovering a Stuart Cramer onside kick.  Ashton Green scored on a 52-yard quarterback keeper on the first play from scrimmage to extend the Red Raider advantage to 42-0 and send the game into a running clock situation.  South Point’s reserve core scored once more in the third quarter on their next possession with a two-yard run by Caiden Scheivert for the final 48-0 score.

As well as South Point’s “red bone offense” performed, their defense played just as well if not better by allowing Stuart Cramer to cross mid-field only two times in the game.

Stuart Cramer’s Storm had 10 first downs while they managed only 91 total yards on offense, 65 yards rushing and 26 yards passing. Those numbers may look a little odd until you take into account that they had seven plays that netted -38 yards.  Quarterback Nic Stutzman went 5-14-0 in the passing department and fullback Zack Alexander had the best output for the running game with 38 yads on 11 carries. The Storm was penalized two times for 10 yards.

South Point accumulated 15 first downs on their way to piling up 331 yards rushing on 29 carries and Patrick Blee completed three of four passes for 30 yards with no interceptions. Wingback Dawson Tobin was the most prolific rusher with 94 yards on just six carries.  The Red Raiders were penalized 4 times for 25 yards.

Next week South Point will travel to Gastonia to take on the Hunter Huss Huskies while Stuart Cramer will travel to Boiling Springs to take on the undefeated Crest Chargers.
