  1. Once again Perk, great job!

There are some intriguing 1st round match-ups in the 2A and 2AA West.  I differ on a few picks.

West Stanly might struggle against Owen.  The Colts lost their stud RB for the season, and after going 8-0 to start the season, the Colts have lost their last 2 games.  Those 2 losses are against Anson (a team that won the Rocky River Conference only to be disqualified from the playoffs) and 4-7 Mount Pleasant.  I’ll pick Owen in this one.

Thomasville might be one of the hottest teams in the 2A West.  After stumbling out of the gates with a 2-3 record, the Bulldogs turned the corner, winning 6 games straight including big wins over North Davidson and Oak Grove.  The Newton-Conover Red Devils had a fine regular season, defeating some good teams including last Friday’s game against East Lincoln.  This game is the proverbial coin flip.  It’s hard for me to pick against a Doug Robertson team, and as such, I’m picking Thomasville in a squeaker.

South Point at Smoky Mountain might be a classic!  Smoky Mountain has a stout defense and a great running game.  South Point has a very good running game and is definitely battle-tested, having played a brutal schedule.  This game could go either way, and for South Point to defeat Smoky Mountain, their defense will have to stop Smoky Mountain’s running game in its tracks.  South Point has a defense who will slow down the Mustangs, but will they have the depth come 4th quarter to emerge as victors?  I don’t know, and as such, I’m picking the home team, Smoky Mountain, to win.
