New Coaches For the Catawba Valley Area
As we begin the 2019 football season, we will cover the Catawba Valley area first. There has been a few moves in the coaching ranks and there also been a classification drop for one team.
In the Northwest Foothills 2A
Fred T Foard says goodbye to Coach Derrick Minor. . He lead the Tigers to a 2nd round playoff appearance in 2017. Replacing Minor is a familiar face to Foard. Ryan Gettys, who coached at Foard from 2003-10.
Three time 2AA regional finalists and 2017 state champion Hibriten replaces Clay LewisReplacing Lewis is Sam Mackey who has no prior head coaching experience but is the son of former South Caldwell head coach and Bandy´s assistant John Mackey. He was also the Panthers defensive coordinator under Lewis.
New to Northwest Foothills 2A is the West Caldwell Warriors (who spent the last 2 seasons in the Northwestern 3A/4A). They also brought a old face back to the Warriors. Replacing De’Vorre Holman is Mike Bickerstaff. He coached the Warriors from the late 70s to late 80s .He also coached at East Burke in the early 2000´s..
South Fork 2A
West Lincoln replaces Tom Sain who retires where he lead the Rebels to a school record of 9 wins. Replacing Sain is Darren Ponder who has one year of head coaching experience at Madison in 2007.Expect Ponder to get his first win soon with a few pieces back from the Rebels 9 win team.
West Lincoln county rival the Lincolnton Wolves replaces Ledford Gibson . Replacing Gibson is Rebuilder Joe Glass. In 2 seasons he has made JM Robinson and Patton from cellar teams to Playoff teams. Expect the Wolves to return to a winning season this year.

Mark Steele replaced with former LNC Knights boss Bob McKay
Northwestern 3A 4A McDowell Titans
Andy Morgan who finished with a record of 11-24 is replaced with Avery County former head coach Darnell Brewer
