Maiden Survives North Surry’s xrunandshootx Attack to Win First Home Playoff Game in 8 Years
The Blue Devils of Maiden was trying to do something they haven’t done since November 4 2011 (according to Max preps) win a playoff game at home and November 13 2015 (according to Max preps) win a playoff game. Before they could do that they would have to get past the last team they beat in the playoffs the powerful xrunandshootx attack of the Greyhounds of North Surry. This game would be chippy and ugly at times but it would be entertaining.
As the game got started the Greyhounds would convert three fourth down conversions. The drive would be finished when Chase Swartz would hit reciever Cameron Woods on a 18 yard touchdown pass (PAT good) North Surry leads 7 to 0 with 7:18 in the first quarter. After Maiden would go three and out. North Surry would gamble on their second drive at their own 37 yard line on forth down. Quarterback Chase Swartz would be sacked at their own 20. Maiden would take over on downs. Few plays later Ethan Rhodes would hit Dylan Abernathy on a 10 yard touchdown pass. (PAT good) we are tied at 7 with 3:55 left in first quarter. North Surry would drive into Maiden territory. But a penalty would back it back and the Greyhounds were forced to punt. On the punt refs say Maiden touches it and North Surry recovers. The Greyhounds would advance to the Maiden 36 as the first quarter ends tied at 7.
As the second quarter began Chase Swartz would hit Nick Badgett on a 34 yard touchdown pass. (PAT good) North Surry leads 14 to 7 with 11:12 left in the second quarter. Maiden would run the kickoff the Greyhounds 36 yard line. The Greyhounds would then be called for a personal foul penalty. This would help Maiden tie the game as Amarion Craig would run it in on a 10 yard touchdown ( PAT good) we are tied at 14 with 9:41 left in the second quarter. After a Greyhounds 3 and out. Maiden would take control of the game. As Ethan Rhodes would hit Dylan Abernathy on a big pass. Few plays later Ethan Rhodes runs it in on a 5 yard qb keeper. (PAT good) Maiden leads 21 to 14 with 6:34 left in the second quarter. North Surry’s Chase Swartz would then be picked off by Brennan James and after a face mask penalty Maiden would take over a the Greyhounds 1 yard line.Amarion Craig would run it in on a 1 yard touchdown (2 point conversion Dylan Abernathy pass to Brennan James ) Maiden leads 29 to 14 with 6:10 left in the second quarter. North Surry would drive all the way to the Blue Devils redzone on their next possession but on 4th and goal the reciever would be stopped short. Fortunately for the Greyhounds they would get the ball right back shortly after as Nick Badgett would pick off Ethan Rhodes near the 30 yard line. Chase Swartz would then hit him on a near 30 touchdown pass for a North Surry touchdown (PAT good) as your halftime score would be Maiden 29 North Surry 21.
The Greyhounds would get another lucky break as they would recover an onside kick. North Surry would then go on a 60 yard drive. It would then be finished on a one yard Chase Swartz qb keeper for a North Surry touchdown ( 2 point conversion no good) Maiden leads 29 to 27 with 9:35 left in the third quarter. Maiden would strike back a few minutes later as Amarion Craig would run and get a 14 yard touchdown (PAT good ) Maiden leads 36 to 27 with 7:43 left in the third quarter. After a North Surry 3 and out Maiden would look like they was about to blow it wide open as multiple penalties and North Surry ejections (including Chase Swartz). Maiden would be set up at first and goal. Unfortunately Maiden would fumble at the Greyhounds 7 yard line with 4:34 left in the third quarter. North Surry could not take control as they would go three and out. Maiden would blow it open as they finished a drive as Dylan Abernathy would hit Carson Hansley on a 7 yard touchdown pass (PAT good) Maiden leads 43 to 27 with 2:03 left in the third quarter. Carson Hansley would then get an interception near the end of the third quarter at the North Surry 8 yard line.
As the forth quarter began. It would take the Blue Devils 8 seconds as Amarion Craig would score on a 7 yard touchdown run (PAT good) Maiden leads 50 to 27 with 11:52 left in the game. North Surry would answer right back as Jahreece Lynch would score on a 34 yard touchdown run (PAT good) Maiden leads 50 to 34 with 9:44 left in the game. Less than a minute later Maiden would answer right back with thier final score on a 37 yard touchdown pass from Ethan Rhodes to Dylan Abernathy (PAT no good) Maiden leads 56 to 34. Your final score would happen with 5:50 left in the game. As Jahreece Lynchwould score on a 5 yard touchdown run (PAT good) Malden leads 56 to 41. Maiden would run the rest of the clock as your final would be Maiden 56 North Surry 41.
With the win Maiden improves to (9-3) and travels to #1 seed Shelby next Friday ( who defeated #16 West Iredell 56 to 7) North Surry ends their season at (7-5).
