SOUTH POINT TOO MUCH FOR HUNTER HUSS-RAIDERS 2-0 IN CONFERENCE PLAY
Huskies Can’t Overcome South Point‘s 28 Unanswered Second Quarter Points

GASTONIA – The Hunter Huss Huskies (0-3, 0-1) hosted the South Point Red Raiders (4-1, 2-0) on Friday night and the Red Raiders were able to go home with a 42-7 conference win.
The opening drives for both teams were hampered by multiple penalties but the Huskies were able to put together a ten play, 77-yard touchdown drive on their second possession. The drive ended when quarterback Javarion Brown scored on a 33-yard quarterback keeper around the left side just as the opening quarter came to a close. Jesus Marin added the point after and Huss took a 7-0 lead into the second quarter.
After running only three plays in the first quarter the Red Raiders went to work on their second drive and used only four plays to answer the Huskies first score. Fullback Tyson Riley scored his first of three second quarter touchdowns on a 6-yard fullback dive play to knot the score at seven apiece.
Riley also found the end-zone on the next Red Raider possession; a one play drive that covered 33-yards after Will Ross’s punt return set-up South Point at the Huss 33. Ashton Harris posted the next Red Raider score on a 19-yard run to cap off their next drive that covered 51 yards in four plays. Riley added his third score for the evening just before the first half ended on a nine-yard jaunt on South Points next drive that covered sixty-one yards. The four South Point second quarter scores gave the visitors a 28-7 lead going into the half. During that same quarter the Red Raider defense knuckled down and held the Huskies to only two first downs and a net of only 64 yards and three possessions that went three and out.
South Point added two scores in the third quarter to finish the scoring for both teams. Quarterback Cam Medlock posted the first score of the third quarter on the Red Raiders opening drive and with just over three minutes left in the period Jack Milford scored on a 22-yard fullback run up the middle by just simply refusing to go down by several would be Huskie defenders. Kicker Charlie Birtwistle went 6 for 6 in point after attempts.
The fourth quarter saw both teams installing multiple substitutes to replace the starters in order to gain important playing time for the future.
Hunter Huss finished the game with 151 yards rushing in 24 attempts. Javarion Brown went 6-14-1 in the passing department and Joseph Armitage went 0-4-0 in his attempt to lead the team in the final quarter. Brown netted 90 yards with his six completions to give the Huskies a total offensive output of 241 yards. Huss was penalized eleven times for 87 yards and they accumulated nine first downs.
South Point totaled 362 rushing yards in 35 attempts. Fullback Tyson Riley collected 196 of those yards on 14 carries and quarterback Cam Medlock completed one of two passes for 13 yards and he added 60 rushing yards on four carries. The Red Raiders were penalized five times for 35 yards, they moved the chains 16 times and they had no turnovers.
South Point coach Adam Hodge said “We had a rough start but we got moving early in the second quarter and our defense contained the edges tonight and we made good containment tackles on the outside.”
Next week the Red Raiders travel to Boiling Springs to take on the Crest Chargers and Hunter Huss will travel to Cramerton to face the Stuart Cramer Storm.
