Maiden Survives North Surry’s xrunandshootx Attack to Win First Home Playoff Game in 8 Years

The Blue Devils of Maiden was trying to do something they haven’t done since November 4 2011 (according to Max preps) win a playoff game at home and November 13 2015 (according to Max preps) win a playoff game. Before they could do that they would have to get past the last team they beat in the playoffs the powerful xrunandshootx attack of the Greyhounds of North Surry. This game would be chippy and ugly at times but it would be entertaining.

As the game got started the Greyhounds would convert three fourth down conversions. Maiden would take control of the game. As Ethan Rhodes would hit Dylan Abernathy on a big pass. Few plays later Ethan Rhodes runs it in on a 5 yard qb keeper. (PAT good) Maiden leads 21 to 14 with 6:34 left in the second quarter. North Surry’s Chase Swartz would then be picked off by Brennan James and after a face mask penalty Maiden would take over a the Greyhounds 1 yard line.Amarion Craig would run it in on a 1 yard touchdown (2 point conversion Dylan Abernathy pass to Brennan James ) Maiden leads 29 to 14 with 6:10 left in the second quarter. North Surry would drive all the way to the Blue Devils redzone on their next possession but on 4th and goal the reciever would be stopped short. Fortunately for the Greyhounds they would get the ball right back shortly after as Nick Badgett would pick off Ethan Rhodes near the 30 yard line. Chase Swartz would then hit him on a near 30 touchdown pass for a North Surry touchdown (PAT good) as your halftime score would be Maiden 29 North Surry 21.

The Greyhounds would get another lucky break as they would recover an onside kick. North Surry would then go on a 60 yard drive. It would then be finished on a one yard Chase Swartz qb keeper for a North Surry touchdown ( 2 point conversion no good) Maiden leads 29 to 27 with 9:35 left in the third quarter. Maiden would strike back a few minutes later as Amarion Craig would run and get a 14 yard touchdown (PAT good ) Maiden leads 36 to 27 with 7:43 left in the third quarter. After a North Surry 3 and out Maiden would look like they was about to blow it wide open as multiple penalties and  North Surry ejections (including Chase Swartz).  Maiden would be set up at first and goal. Unfortunately Maiden would fumble at the Greyhounds 7 yard line with 4:34 left in the third quarter. North Surry could not take control as they would go three and out. Maiden would blow it open as they finished a drive as Dylan Abernathy would hit Carson Hansley on a 7 yard touchdown pass (PAT good)  Maiden leads 43 to 27 with 2:03 left in the third quarter.
