Late Touchdown Pushes Forestview Past Ashbrook

This game was a back-and-forth contest the entire evening. Forestview would jump out to a 14-0 lead only to watch it dwindle to a 21-13 half-time lead. Ashbrook would tie it 21-21 midway through the third quarter. The game would see two more ties after that. Forestview would score the winning touchdown with 30.5 seconds left in the game. Ashbrook just would not have much time to respond. Forestview went away with a 42-35 win at William Eccles Field.

A two-yard run by Jamarion Dawkins and a 19-yard touchdown pass from Graham Wiggins to Camury Reid would start the show off for Forestview. But the Green Wave would not lie down. Omarian Boyce would put Ashbrook on the board with a four-yard touchdown run (PAT good). Forestview would storm right back with a five-yard touchdown run by Jamarion Dawkins (PAT good). Ashbrook would respond quickly with an 80-yard touchdown run by Takim Bond (PAT no good).

The game would be tied in the third quarter at 21 a piece with a ten-yard run by Kendall Massey and a Chandler Meeks run for the two-point conversion. This came after Forestview missed a 58-yard field-goal. The Jaguars would go right back to work with their wildcat offense. Camury Reid’s 20-yard touchdown run would put Forestview back in front (PAT good). The Green Wave would tie it up again with another long Takim Bond touchdown run. This one would be from 68 yards (PAT good). Dawkins would put Forestview back on top with a seven-yard run (PAT good). On 4th-and-6 from the 12-yard line, the Green Wave would tie it up again with another Bond touchdown run with five and a half minutes to go (PAT good).

The Jaguars would use the clock in their favor on their final drive with their running game. With less than a minute left in the game, Dawkins scored another two-yard touchdown run to put the Jaguars up for good. Holt Cloninger would go 6-for-6 on his extra point kicks. Ashbrook just did not have enough time to muster up another drive.

Forestview goes away with their first win at Ashbrook since 2001 when they won 17-8. Jamarion Dawkins led Forestview with 310 total yards (239 yards rushing, 67 yards receiving and 4 yards passing) and four rushing touchdowns. Takim Bond led Ashbrook with 200 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

“It’s huge to get a win no matter what. It’s a conference game.” said Forestview head coach Chris Medlin “Coming off a tough loss last week, it’s good to get back on the winning side. We just got to keep plugging. (Ashbrook) fought hard. Give them a ton of credit. Coming in 0-4, they could have folded once they got down 14. They could have laid down. Same time, we could have laid down a couple of times. I was proud of our team that we kept on fighting. They beat us two years in a row. We beat them three years ago. I was glad we were able to get one this year.”

“I’m proud of our kids’ effort. When Forestview scored, we answered. That’s something this year that we have not shown. But we answered tonight.” said Ashbrook head coach Brian Andrews “I told our guys that I’m proud of the way we played but we just did not finish at the end there. I was disappointed about that but I can’t thank the players enough for the way they played hard and the kind of effort that they showed.”

“We’re practicing better.” Andrews said about his teams imrpovement “We didn’t have a turnover tonight so that was huge. We still had a lot of missed tackles. We have to do better than that. Let’s give credit where credit is due. Forestview is a good team. We played them good enough but we didn’t play them well enough to beat them. So if we want to win the game, we have to do the things at the end of the game that matter.”

Forestview (3-3)(1-1) will be on the road again as they travel to North Gaston (1-5)(0-1). North Gaston lost 70-0 to Kings Mountain. Ashbrook (0-5)(0-1) will host Crest (5-2)(2-0). Crest won 48-0 over Stuart Cramer.
