HICKORY RIDGE BULLS PAST THE RED RAIDERS WITH A 27-7 WIN

By: Anthony Perkins

Harrisburg – The Hickory Ridge Raging Bulls hosted the South Point Red Raiders for a gridiron contest on Friday night and when the dust had settled the Raging Bulls went to the house with a 27-7 win.  The game was sort of thrown together after both Hickory Ridge and South Point discovered that the opponents they had on the schedule for this week could not play because they were placed on COVID protocol for this week.

The Raging Bulls offense gashed the Red Raider defense for 217 yards rushing in 26 carries with Randall Fisher doing the major damage with 94 yards on 12 carries.  Quarterback Alex Bentley lead a crisp and effective passing attack by completing 13 of 19 passes for 220 yards.  Christian Hamilton was his favorite target with 7 catches for 166 yards.

Hickory Ridge scored on their two possessions to take a 12-0 lead that they would never surrender.  Their first score came with just over five minutes remaining in the opening quarter when Bentley hooked up with Hamilton for a 53-yard touchdown pass and run.  The Bentley/Hamilton duo connected again on a 20-yard pass play just as the clock ticked down to all zeroes to end the first quarter.

The Red Raiders briefly got back into the fray on their next possession when David Howard connected with Jackson Blee for 55-yards on a halfback pass to make the score 12-7 in favor of the Raging Bulls.  However, the Red Raiders would get no closer because less than three minutes later Hickory Ridge added their final score of the first half on a three-yard run by fullback Randall Fisher and a two-point conversion run made the half-time score 20-7 in favor of the Raging Bulls.

Hickory Ridge took the opening kickoff of the second half and Randall Fisher capped off a seven play, fifty-yard drive with a 26-yard run to paydirt.  The point after was successful by kicker Will Laing which accounted for the 27-7 final score.

South Point accumulated 246 yards rushing on 50 carries. Fullback Tyson Riley had the highest output with 168 yards on 26 carries.  South Point went 1-8-2 in the passing department for a total of 55 yards on the Jackson Blee touchdown in the second quarter.  The Red Raiders had only three possessions in the second half and all of them ended with a turnover (interception, interception, and fumble).

South Point has a BYE next week and Hickory Ridge will travel to Charlotte to take on the Chambers Cougars.
