Fred T. Foard’s Rushing Attack Gives Tigers Second Win Of the Season
When a 1-8 team faces a 2-7 team, there is not usually much on the line as far as playoff spots and conference titles go. But one thing the Tigers and the Cavaliers were playing for was pride. This game at East Burke Stadium was originally supposed to kick off Friday, but weather and bad field conditions forced the game to be played last night.
The Foard Tigers got on the board first with a one-yard touchdown run by Brandon Alderman (PAT good). The Cavaliers would answer with a two-yard touchdown run by Josh Moore (PAT good). The Tigers would retake the lead in the second quarter with a six-yard touchdown run by Cameron Gore (PAT good). That would be all the scoring in the first half as the two teams would exchange fumbles before halftime.
That would also be how the third quarter starts. The Tigers received the kickoff in the second half and would fumble. East Burke’s Dawson Langley would return the loose ball 27 yards for the Cavaliers touchdown (PAT good). But the Tigers would break the tie again with a 10-yard touchdown run by Brandon Alderman (PAT good).
In the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers would knot the game back up with a 78-yard touchdown run by Josh Moore (PAT good). But the Cavalier defense could not keep the Tigers out of the end zone. One fourth-and-goal from the one, the Tigers opted to go for it instead of kicking the field goal. Alderman would score another touchdown to put the Tigers back on top 28-21 (PAT good).
The Cavaliers did get a solid drive going with just over two minutes left to play. They would make inside the Tiger 10-yard line. But on fourth down, the Tiger defense stopped the Cavalier offense at the seven yard line. That would be all she wrote as the Fred T. Foard Tigers get their second win of the season. Both teams are currently 2-8 with one game remaining.
“It was a great team effort across the board. Everybody played hard.” said Fred T. Foard head coach Ryan Gettys “We did have a lot of injuries and tonight we were able to overcome that. Our power run was really good tonight and we hit them with some ISO’s here and there. Once we were able to do that, sweeps worked and a few hitch routes that got big gains for us. Brandon Alderman is a hard runner. He’s usually our fullback. We’re hurt across the board so we’re having to move kids around. Go thing is both of those guys (Brandon Alderman and Cameron Gore) will be back next year.”
Josh Moore led the Cavalier offense with 268 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He had all but 43 of the Cavaliers offensive yardage. Brandon Alderman scored three touchdowns on 60 yards rushing for the Tigers while his teammate Cameron Gore rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown. East Burke will travel to Draughn Friday and Fred T. Foard will host West Iredell.
