First half both teams had a lot mistakes as Statesville led 14-6. Perhaps 1st game jitters. Then 2nd half Statesville open up scoring leading 40-6 at the end of 3rd. Final score Statesville 40 Hickory 12.

Big battle then week with Statesville playing Lake Norman as both teams are 1-0.

Statesville does have a good team. The hurt for Hickory was the size of their line. Statesville has a huge line with a real good RB. 1st half Statesville hurt themselves with penalties and the secondary had trouble at times stopping the pass and had miss tackles that should been made. The second half Statesville came out a different team scoring on their 1st 4 possessions. They did better at stopping passes. Statesville was just too much for Hickory. If Statesville can play like they did the 2nd half I think they will have a real good season. Look for Statesville n West Rowan to battle for the conference.

To come out and score first 4 possessions in second half : that's one heck of a good coaching job.. Shows good adjustments .

Also meant to mention that this is Coach Gustler of Statesville 100 win for the Greyhounds. Congratulations for the accomplishments.

Statesville and Hickory are two former members of the WNCHSAA.  Hickory played in the WNCHSAA through the 1967-1968 season while Statesville stayed in the WNCHSAA until the end (1976).

In 1966, Hickory defeated Statesville 41-7 to win the WNCHSAA crown.  Many people in the surrounding areas of Mecklenburg County still keep up with the individual progresses of all of these former WNCHSAA squads.
