## Against Preseason Expectation

Where last season said a team would be, where this season's results alone put them, and how much of the preseason number the published rating still carries. A team whose results contradict its preseason rating sheds it as the games accumulate — fully protected at one game, essentially free of it by six — so this column is the model saying how much it still believes last year.

## Season Projection

120 simulated seasons. Results through week 10 are taken as they stand; every week after that is played out in full, with ratings refit after each one. Outcomes are sampled rather than awarded to the favorite, so upsets happen at the rate the model believes they happen. The mean rating comes back close to where the season has already put each team — a simulation learns nothing new about games nobody has played — so the 10th–90th band, not the mean, is the forecast, and it widens the further out the projection runs.
