North Meck improved their record to 19-4 overall after a blowout victory against the visiting Mooresville Blue Devils. North Meck showed that despite their recent losses to West Charlotte and Mallard Creek, you do not want to count them out just yet.
North Meck - Wiggins led all scorers with 21 points, but unlike most games I’ve seen North Meck play, this win was a total team effort. Everyone got involved in the offense and this team showed just how good they can be when they share the basketball. The Vikings passed the ball well, always finding the open man. They played aggressive defense forcing Mooresville into several turnovers and played like they had something to prove.
If North Meck continues to play this way, they will be a handful come playoff time. I said in a previous post that North has a lot of talent on their team. And if Wiggins’ supporting cast can trust their offense a little more and get more shot attempts up, they can get back on track. It was obvious that the rest of the team decided to raise their level of play. Last night proved that they have taken a huge step in the right direction.
Mooresville – Watching the body language of this team, I’m starting to believe they have shut it down for the season. They just don’t seem to be on the same page. Turnover after turnover, passes over heads, passes deflected. These are the same things I was just talking about 2 weeks ago. There were times in this game that Lester (13 points) just needed to stop passing and take over the game. He had several turnovers just trying to get the ball to his teammates who were not making shots. At some point you just have to single-handedly will your team to victory. 13 points from your star player is just not going to get you victories. Adding to this, his numbers are also down from a year ago 19 vs. 14? There must be something going on internally with this team that we are just not aware of.
