Kendall Knorr and the Spiders were too much for Charlotte Catholic tonight. Concord jumped out to the early lead behind the play of Senior and Navy bound Kendall Knorr. Knorr stepped up in the biggest game the Spiders have had to date, knocking down big shot after big shot and being a constant leader.
Concord got off to the early lead and after a 3 ball by Knorr as the1st quarter buzzer sounded, Concord enjoyed a 7-8 point lead. But Catholic continued to fight just like they had all season long and put up a huge 2nd quarter. Robert Champion and the rest of the Cougars shot lights out from behind the arc in the 2nd. Champion displayed a quick release and was not hesitant letting the ball fly. The score was tie 32-32 at half.
Concord picked it up in the 2nd half however and quickly jumped out to a comfortable lead for most of the 2nd half. Junior point guard Darren Black displayed why he is a coveted college prospect, showing he can command a team, explode to the hole, and set up team-mates. Concord extended the lead to as much as 18 point with just under 6 minutes left in the contest. Catholic went on another hot streak cutting it to as little as 8, but it was too little too late as The Spiders ran away with the 17 point win.
Connor Burchfield - The Sophmore has a lot of promise, at 6'3", quick, aggressive scorer, with a nice release. He didnt have his best game, as he had good and not so good moments. But this is a nice player. Just needs to work on decision making and finishing around bigger bodies.
Darren Black - Most talented player on the floor tonight. Sure shot DI. Also scored his 1000th career point.
Knorr - As stated above he had a huge game. He also played great D on Champion in the 2nd half, which really hurt the Catholic offense, since Concord as a team was very aggressive deffensivly and not giving up the easy back-door layups Catholic is use to.
Reid Aube - Should be mentioned he played a very strong game, showed surprising athleticism, rebounded and scored under-neath. Overall a really strong game.
Concord - This may not be their year, but they are a serious threat to win the State Championship for the next 2 seasons, as most of the team other than Knorr returns.
Robert Champion - Year didnt end on a high note as a team, but he played a strong game, knocking down a lot of big 3's to keep Catholic in the game.
Catholic - As a team they shot phenominal from behind the arc and it was needed to keep them in it. Against most of the NC 3A teams if they shoot as good as they did tonight, they win the game... But Concord was too much.
