Bandys 5 Turnovers Sends The Hibriten Panthers To 30th Straight Win & A Rematch vs Shelby For the Regional Title Again

Tonight the Hibriten Panthers welcomed old conference foe the Bandys Trojans in the 3rd Round of the 2AA West playoffs. The series between these to goes like this. Bandys and Hibriten would start playing in the old SD7 Conference between 1993 to 2000 and again in the 2AA playoffs (4th round 2003 and 2nd round 2004) then again in the old CVAC 2A from 2005-08. Bandys would win the 1st 12 games in the series and Hibriten would finally end that streak in 2007 ( 40 to 26 at Bandys) and has won 3 straight against the Trojans including a 1st Round win 385 days ago (56 to 7). Hibriten was looking for thier 4th straight win over Bandys and most importantly a 3rd straight trip to the regional finals Bandys was looking for thier 1st trip to the regionals since 2004 (going 0-4 since then in 3rd Round games.
As the game got started both teams would stall drives around the 50 and 40 yard lines and the game would be scoreless after the 1st quarter. As the 2nd quarter began Bandys problems would start as they would fumble the ball at Panthers 36 and Hibriten would recover. Two plays later Gee Witherspoon would break free on a 20 yard touchdown run. (PAT no good) Hibriten leads 6 to 0 with 10:56 left in the 2nd quarter. Bandys would answer right back with a big gain from Ethan Howard. That would set up eventually at 4th and 8 where the pass would fall incomplete and Bandys turns the ball over on downs with 8:12 left in the 2nd quarter. But little over a minute later Hibriten would turn the ball over on a fumble in Bandys territory. Bandys would drive the ball on a long drive eventually getting it the red zone. But the fumble problem would hurt the Trojans again as the Panthers recover the ball at thier on 12 yard line with 1:44 left til halftime. A minute later Hibriten QB Jaylen Scott would put the final 1st half points on the board through the air as he would hit Marcus Jones on a 60 yard touchdown pass.(2 pointer from Gee Witherspoon good) Hibriten leads 14 to 0 at halftime.
As the 3rd quarter started Hibriten would start where they left off in the 2nd quarter a Jaylen Scott touchdown. This time finishing a drive on a 4 yard QB keeper.(PAT good) Hibriten leads 21 to 0 with 9:17 left in the 3rd quarter. Elijah Clark would then take the kickoff all the way to the 30 yard line. Unfortunately Bandys would fumble the ball at Panthers 15 a few plays later. Few plays later Gee Witherspoon breaks free taking it 85 yards for a touchdown (PAT no good) Hibriten now leads 27 to 0 with 653 left in 3rd quarter. Bandys would finally gets something going after that as Elijah Clark would run a big gain to the 38 of Hibriten. Bandys QB Lake Hojackni finishes the drive on a 10 yard QB keeper.(PAT good) Hibriten leads 27 to 7 with 5:38 left in the 3rd quarter. Bandys would get the ball back on a interception Isaiah Talbert. Bandys would then go on a long the drive to finish the quarter leaving the score 27 to 7 Hibriten after 3 quarters.
Bandys drive the ball into Panther territory. That's when Bandys turnover bug would return as Lake Hojackni would be intercepted by Cade Ellis with 8 minutes left in the game and return it to the Trojans 31 yard line. A few plays later Gee Witherspoon would finish the drive with a 25 yard rushing touchdown run(PAT good ) Hibriten now leads 34 to 7. Bandys would then go on a long drive with its all time leading rusher getting his 1st of the game and last career TD on a 1 yard touchdown run(2 pointer good) Hibriten leads 34 to 15 with 3:10 left in the game. Hibriten would ice it on a onside kick recovery and a huge Cade Ellis run to run out the clock as Hibriten wins it 34 to 15.
With the lose Bandys finishes thier season at 12-2 and loses many talented seniors including Ethan Howard (Who finshed 36 carries for 185 yards tonight) finish his Bandys career with unofficially 4629 yards for his All time leading rusher carrere. Hibriten improves to 14-0 and wins thier 30th straight wins welcomed Shelby (35 to 7 winners over North Lincoln) for a rematch of last year's regional championship game and for the 2AA western regional title. The winner of that game will receive a trip to Carter Finley Stadium at NC State in 2 weeks against the North Davidson/Leford winner.
