Tonight was a special night at Douglas C Leonhart Memorial Stadium. The Rebels of West Lincoln hosted the Trojans of Bandys High. The game was billed as the biggest game in West Lincoln football history. The game was so big lines at the concessions were a reported 45 minute wait and they would run out of food by the end of the 3rd quarter. But this game would not disappoint because a key 3rd down in the 4th quarter would decide this game.
As the game got started Bandys has no trouble running their triple option attack and would drive the ball to the Rebels 29 yard line. That's when Bandys FB Ethan Howard would break free on a 29 yard TD run (PAT good) Bandys leads 7 to 0 with 9:25 left in the 1st quarter. West Lincoln would then drive the ball to around the 50 but would be forced to punt. Bandys would fair no better as they would be forced to punt as well. That's when the Rebels took over at Trojans 45. Few plays later West Lincoln took to the air as Rebel qb Seth Willis would hit Jessie Hatcher on a 21 yard passing TD (PAT no good) Bandys 7 West Lincoln 6 as the 1st quarter would end 1 minute later.
Bandys would then go the and out to open the 2nd quarter. West Lincoln would then open to the air again. As Seth Willis would hit TE Nathan Beam on a long passing play. The drive would then be capped off with a Seth Willis qb 1 yard keeper. Nathathon Phansook would get the 2 pointer. West Lincoln now leads 14 to 7 with 9:40 left in the 2nd quarter. The Rebels lead would only last a little over a minute. As Ethan Howard would break free and run the ball into rebel territory on a big gain the 44 yard line. Few plays later Bandys Jackson Spicer would finish the drive on 6 yard TD run (PAT good) game tied at 14 with 8:17 left in the 2nd quarter.
The rest of the quarter saw no points as both teams would end on penalties and short gains.
During halftime Miss Kayley Pearson would be named 2018 West Lincoln Homecoming Queen. During the 3rdd quarter Bandys would start to take control forcing a West Lincoln 3 and out to open the 2nd half. That's when Bandys FB Ethan Howard would gain to big gains on a drive advancing the ball all the way to the Rebels 12 yard time. Few plays later Isaiah Talbert would run for a Trojans touchdown (PAT good Bandys leads now 21 to 14 with 6:59 left in the 3rd quarter. On West Lincolns next possession the would drive to midfield but a sack by Ethan Howard would force a rebels punt. That's when Bandys would drive the ball down the Rebels 18 yard line nearing the end of 3rd quarter quarter. Lead by who else? Ethan Howard's big gain. (Ethan Howard would finish with 173 yards and only needs 435 yards to pass Bandys rusher and my former classmate Chris Spade to become Bandys all-time leading rusher)
(Credit goes to my long time family friend Chris Hobbs from Hobbs Daily Report for posting the yards needed to break the record) At the start of the 4th quarter Ethan Howard would make it a 2 score game breaking free on a 18 yard TD run(PAT good) Bandys leads 28 to 14 with 11:55 left in the the game. West Lincoln would then get back in the game with big runs by Brendon Ikard and Xander Pendergrass. The drive would then be capped by Seth Willis 1 yard keeper (who would then hit Dylan Beam on the 2 pointer) Bandys leads 28 to 22 with 8:13 left in the game. On the next long drive Bandys would eventually face a 3rd and long. That's when the play that would decide this game happened. As Bandys QB Lake Hojanckni would hit Isaiah Talbert on only his second pass all game on a huge pass. Few plays later Ethan Howard would finish the drive on a 1 yard touchdown run sealing it for the Trojans (Howard would get the 2 pointer) Bandys leads 36 to 22 with 2:35 left in the game. West Lincoln would have one more shot to score but Seth Willis pass would be picked of Jacob Ellis ending the game.
