West Lincoln's 384 Yard Rushing Attack Sends the Rebels to their 1st Win against Maiden in 33 years

1985 that was the last time West Lincoln defeated Maiden. But with loads back from from last season's team looked to be a stiff challenge for the much younger Blue Devils of Maiden who was looking to avoid a 2 game losing streak. But West Lincoln the veteran team has only allowed double digit points once  (10 to Fred T Foard) all season.

As the game got started the Rebels used the legs of Ikard, Pendergrass, Phansook and Willis to move the chains constantly and the drive would be finished with a Seth Willis 5 yd QB keeper (PAT blocked) 6 to 0 West Lincoln with 6:58 left in the 1st quarter. Maiden would receive the ball and put a nice drive together but on 4th and 1 on the Rebels 30 the Rebels defense would hold and force a turnover on downs. West Lincoln would then start another long drive taking it to the Blue Devils 13 yard line as the quarter would end 6 to 0 Rebels.

As the 2nd quarter begun at the Blue Devils 13. The Rebels would extend their lead with a Nathan Phansook 2 yd run would put the Rebels up 12 to 0 with 11:35 in the 2nd quarter. After a blue devils 3 and put West Lincoln looked to extend their drive getting in Blue Devils territory. But West Lincoln's QB Seth Willis would be intercepted by Montrell Stinson at the Rebels 34 with 7:51 left in the 2nd quarter. A minute later disaster would strike as Maiden would fumble at the same 34 yd line. It would be picked up by West Lincoln's Mason Hewitt. Fotunanty for the Blue Devils the Rebels could not turn it into points. After both teams would get penalties and go 3 and out. West Lincoln would get one more chance to extend their lead and they did so. This time Seth Willis would hit his receiver on a 26 yard touch down pass. Making the score 18 to 0 Rebels at halftime with the failed 2 point conversion. 

During the 3rd quarter West Lincoln would put in a long Ikard, Pendergrass, Phansook and Willis leg run drive. That's when Nathan Phansook would finish the drive on a 2 yd TD run to put the Rebels up 24 to 0 after the failed 2 point conversion with 3:04 left in the 3rd quarter. Maiden would finally start moving late in the 3rd quarter. But a fumble by Maiden would be picked up by West Lincoln's Chandler Cuthber near the end of the 3rd quarter. Leaving the score 24 to 0 Rebels after 3 quarters. West Lincoln would not take advantage of the fumble as they were forced to punt it away. Maiden would finally get on the board then as Bain Sipe would hit Dylan Abernathy on a 55 yd TD pass to make the score 24 to 6 after a failed to point conversion with 8:32 left in the game. West Lincoln would then put the game out of reach as they drove the ball for 6 minutes and Brandon Ikard would fimish the drive on a 2 yard TD run (PAT good) 31 to 6 West Lincoln with with 2 minutes left. Maiden would then start making a attempted comeback and make the score closer than it was. As Bain Sipe would hit Montrell Stinson on a 22 yard TD pass and after a onside kick recovery Lee Turner would run it in 5 yards with both PATs no good. Making your final score West Lincoln 31 Maiden 18 final.

West Lincoln would finish with 384 rushingyards and would defeat Maiden for the 1st time since 1985 and  only 4th win over Maiden since 1972. With the win West Lincoln improves to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the South Fork 2A and will host Newton-Conover next week who lost to Bandys Friday night. Maiden with the lose drops to 4-2 and 0-2 in the South Fork 2A and will try to end a 2 game losing streak as they travel to Lake Norman Charter who lost to North Lincoln Friday night.
