Hibriten Defense Too Much For Franklin Sends Them to 2nd Straight Western Regional Final
Posted: November 25, 2017
Tonight at Jeff Storie Memorial Stadium. The Hibriten Panthers the #2 seed in the 2AA West hosted the Franklin Panthers the #3 seed in the 2AA west. Both teams entered 13-0 and ranked in the top 10 in most 2A polls. The winner was guaranteed to host next weeks 2AA west regional championship. Both teams entered as ground and pound attack teams. But the game would be won by a great defensive game plan. Hibriten would receive the opening kickoff. They would move the chains at ease. That would set up a Marqwone Jones 2 yard TD. To put Hibriten up 7 to 0. Franklin would then drive to midfield but would be stalled on a fake punt pass that fooled no one on the Hibriten sideline as the Panthers took over on downs. Hibriten would then start stalling from penalties. Something that would hurt Hibriten in the 1st half. Later on in the 1st quarter Franklin would shoot their on self in the foot. On 3rd and a mile Andrew Moore throws it near me on the sidelines refs call it a safety putting Hibriten up 9 to 0. That score would stick til the end of the half due to great defensive play by both teams or penalties. Even a fumble by Hibriten would result in no points as Franklin's field goal would end the half at 9 to 0. After a Franklin 3 and out. Hibriten would get things rolling. After 3 big run plays Gee Witherspoon would run it in to put Hibriten up 16 to 0. Later on in the 3rd After a Hibriten interception by Karson Pilkenton on a failed fake punt pass. Hibriten QB Jalen Scott ran it 56 yards to blow it open at 23 to 0 after 3 quarters. Later on in the 4th After a Franklin and out Gee Witherspoon would ice the game as he ran 52 yds to put the score at 30 to 0 Hibriten with less than 5 min remaining in the game. On Hibritens next possession Gee Witherspoon 64 yard td would add icing and a cherry to the cake to blow it up even more to make it 37 to 0 Hibriten. Franklin would finally get on the board as Andrew Moore who was pressured by Defensive Coordinator Sam Mackey would move his team 64 yds and it would be finished off with a receiving touchdown to Mason Sequoya with 5 seconds left to put the final at Hibriten 37 Franklin 7. Franklin with hopefully a safe 3 hour drive up the mountains finish the season 13-1. Hibriten who has outscored opponents 99-14 in the playoffs welcome in 4 x straight state champions #8 Shelby who defeated Mt. Pleasant 7 to 0 next Friday at Jeff Storie Memorial Stadium. For the 2AA West Regonal Championship and a trip to UNC on the line.
