PERK'S PICKS FOR WEEK 8

PERK’S PICKS FOR WEEK 8 OF THE 2017 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

Predictions for the Southern Piedmont, South Fork, Southwestern and Big South Conferences

Last week I predicted 14 out of 15 winners for a 93% average. Through the first seven weeks I’ve picked 100 of 127 winners for a 78% average.  My maximum point differential is 40 points even if I think a team will win by more than 40 (my ‘mercy rule’).  Overall records are listed first and conference records are listed second.

2017 SOUTHERN PIEDMONT 1A

There are two games in the Southern Piedmont to watch this week that could have big implications in the conference race.  The first game pits the Community School of Davidson against Thomas Jefferson Academy. In the other game Union Academy, who is coming off of a big win over Mountain Island Charter, will be going up against Bessemer City, a pre-season favorite to win the conference.  Mountain Island Charter will be at Cherryville and the Ironmen are in a must win situation if they want to get back in the race.

Community School of Davidson (3-2, 2-0) at Thomas Jefferson (6-0, 2-0): Thomas Jefferson by 21.

Highland Tech _2-4, 0-2) at Pine Lake Prep (2-4, 0-2): Pine Lake Prep by 14.

Mountain Island Charter (4-2, 1-1) at Cherryville (2-4, 0-2): MIC by 12.

Union Academy (4-2, 1-1) at Bessemer City (6-0, 2-0): Bessemer City by 13.

2017 SOUTHFORK 2A

In the Southfork Conference Maiden and Newton-Conover will be looking to stay tied for the top spot as they go up against Lake Norman Charter and West Lincoln respectively.  East Lincoln is also tied for the conference lead and they will be going up against a high scoring North Lincoln squad.  Rounding out this week’s games will be Bandys and Lincolnton facing each other where both teams are looking for their first conference win.

Bandys (2-4, 0-2) at Lincolnton (1-5, 0-2): Bandys by 8.

East Lincoln (3-3, 2-0) at North Lincoln (2-4, 1-1): North Lincoln by 13

Lake Norman Charter (3-3, 0-2) at Maiden (6-0, 2-0): Maiden by 20.

West Lincoln (3-3, 1-1) at Newton-Conover (5-1, 2-0):  Newton-Conover by 19.

2017 SOUTHWESTERN 2A

This will be the first week of conference competition in the Southwestern 2A and Shelby along with South Point still figure to be the favorites to win the conference and it likely will not be decided until they meet in the regular season finale.

East Gaston (1-5) at South Point (6-0): South Point by 40.

East Rutherford (4-2) at R-S Central (3-3): East Rutherford by 21.

Shelby (5-1) at Chase (1-5): Shelby by 40.

2017 BIG SOUTH 3A

The Big South has four teams with 2-0 conference records but those four teams will be mixing it up this week and there will only be two teams sitting at the top as Crest will be at Ashbrook and Kings Mountain will be at Hunter Huss.  The rest of the league is still looking for their first conference victory and two of those teams will get into the win column this week when Forestview visits North Gaston and Stuart Cramer hits the road against Burns.

Crest (4-2, 2-0) at Ashbrook (3-3, 2-0): Crest by 13

Forestview (1-5, 0-2) at North Gaston (2-4, 0-2): North Gaston by 12.

Kings Mountain (5-1, 2-0) at Hunter Huss (4-2, 2-0): Kings Mountain by 14.

Stuart Cramer (3-3, 0-2) at Burns (1-5, 0-2): Stuart Cramer by 6.

I stand corrected! I was looking at the scores on the internet last Friday and one place had the wrong winner listed and I forgot to correct my notes.
Sorry about the bad info.
Thanks,
Anthony
