Maiden Overcomes Slow Start Ruins Homecoming Night for West Lincoln

West Lincoln was looking to win on homecoming night as they hosted undefeated Maiden. A team they haven't beat since 1985. By the 1st half it looked like they could pull the upset. West Lincoln drove on its first possession and it was finished with a TD to put West Lincoln up 7 to 0. Unfortunately that's all the points the Rebels would get. On the next possession Maiden would drive down the field and finish it with a 19 yd pass from QB Keygan Mayfield to Logan Hentschal to tie it at 7 a peace. During the rest of the 1st half West Lincoln drove into the Blue Devils red zone 3 times but turnover on downs fumble and interceptions would hurt both teams as the game would remained tied at 7 at halftime. During halftime Miss Harley Byers was named 2017 West Lincoln Homecoming Queen. After Maiden went 3 and out to to open the 2nd half. West Lincoln was forced to punt on the next possession but that is where the game would swing in Maidens favor. The punt would go over the Rebels punters head setting up Maiden with a great scoring opportunity as Kentrell Williams would run it in to the end zone to put Maiden ahead 13 to 7. Later in the 3rd quarter Keygan Mayfield broke on a 21 yd qb keeper to put Maiden up 20 to 7. On West Lincoln drove into the Blue Devils red zone with 6 min left in the game but was hurt by a holding penalty would hurt them as they turned the ball over on downs. Kentrell Williams would seal the game with a 54 yd Td with 4 min left in the game West Lincoln made it look respectable as Chase Willis would run a qb keeper to make the final 27 to 13 Maiden. Maiden now 6-0 will host Lake Norman Charter for their homecoming next Friday. West Lincoln now 3-3 will travel to Newton-Conover.
