This year we’re focusing on the Southern Piedmont 1A, South Fork 2A, Southwestern 2A and Big South 3A Conferences.  Last week I predicted 16 out of 19 winners for a 84% average. Through the first two weeks I’ve picked 43 out of 55 winners for a 78% average.  My maximum point differential is 40 points even if I think a team will win by more than 40 (my ‘mercy rule’).

Bessemer City and Thomas Jefferson are still perfect and the Yellow Jackets have this week off while the Gryphons will be on the road but they should have no trouble with Trinity Academy.   The rest of the league is sporting 2-1 records with the exception of Cherryville 1-2 and the Community School of Davidson who is still looking for their first win.

Bessemer City, Mountain Island Charter, Union Academy:  OPEN

Draughn at Cherryville: Draughn by 19.

Community School of Davidson at North Surry: North Surry by 35.

Lake Norman Charter at Highland Tech: Lake Norman Charter by 32.

Pine Lake Prep at Cannon: Pine Lake Prep by 7.

Thomas Jefferson at Trinity Academy: Thomas Jefferson by 27.

Maiden goes into week four with an unblemished record along with Newton-Conover, and West Lincoln both at 2-0.  Maiden and Newton-Conover should have few problems securing a win this week but West Lincoln will be on the road and face a touch test in FT Foard.  Last week’s contest between Lincolnton and North Gaston was postponed until September 15 which happens to be the night both teams have their ‘bye’ week scheduled.

Bunker Hill at Bandys: Bandys by 35.

North Gaston at East Lincoln: East Lincoln by 9.

Lake Norman Charter at Highland Tech: Lake Norman Charter by 19.

East Gaston at Lincolnton: Lincolnton by 10.

St Stephens at Maiden: Maiden by 24.

Newton-Conover at East Burke: Newton-Conover by 28.

North Lincoln at Alexander Central: Alexander Central by 13.

West Lincoln at FT Foard: West Lincoln by 3.

East Rutherford, Shelby and South Point are still perfect going into week three.  Shelby and South Point have simply met expectations but East Rutherford is the team in the conference to keep an eye on this year; they are winning by some big margins and come conference time they may have something to say about who wins this conference race.  R-S Central has a 2-1 mark, East Gaston’s Warriors stand at 1-2 and Chase is still searching for a win that find come Friday night.

Chase at East Henderson: Chase by 3.

East Gaston at Lincolnton: Lincolnton by 10.

East Rutherford at Burns: E. Rutherford by 22.

RS Central at Pisgah: Pisgah by 21.

Crest at Shelby: Shelby by 17.

Clover at South Point:  South Point by 7.

Hunter Huss lost by the narrowest of margins last week against 5A Clover S.C. after failing to make a two-point conversion in overtime. Stuart Cramer at 3-0 and Kings Mountain at 2-0 are the only teams remaining in the conference without a loss and Kings Mountain should get a win this week to  get even with the Storm since they have an open date this Friday.  Burns will face a tough opponent when former conference opponent East Rutherford shows up in Lawndale on Friday night and the same is true for Ashbrook when Forestview pulls into Gastonia this week.  Huss should get back into the win column with relative ease but North Gaston will have to bring their A+ game to register a win against East Lincoln.  Then there’s the Shelby/Crest game.  To cross county rivals and former conference opponents will line up against each other in Shelby and this almost always proves to be a slug-fest regardless of their records.  This year should be no different!

Forestview at Ashbrook: Ashbrook by 13.

East Rutherford at Burns: E. Rutherford by 17.

Crest at Shelby: Shelby by 7.

Hickory at Hunter Huss: Huss by 20.

Kings Mountain at Cuthbertson: Kings Mountain by 20.

North Gaston at East Lincoln: East Lincoln by 9.

Stuart Cramer: OPEN
