Mallard Creek @ Berry: Take Two

Mallard Creek and Berry squared off on Tuesday night, after severe thunderstorms on Friday night postponed all CMS games and many other Charlotte area games.

A rainy tuesday turned into a beautiful tuesday night. They game resumed play midway through the first quarter, and from the very begining of the night, it looked as though both teams were flat. Understandably so, seeing as this was an unusual circumstance for a game to be played on. On Mc's first drive, Andrew Goodman's pass was intercepted by the Berry defense. Mallard Creek then returned the favor intercepting the ball on their own 4 yard line. One of those types of nights for both teams.

That's when it became clear it was Duncan Time. Mallard Creek had a balanced offense, but running back Jela Duncan was an absolute beast. Didn't get stats on him, but he was too good for Berry. Don't know if it was the fact that Berry couldn't tackle, or the fact the he just plain and simple wouldn't go down. Yards after first hit must have been through the roof. He would shed two, three, sometimes even four would-be tacklers. Very fast and hits the holes very hard. Andrew Goodman and his receivers looked pretty good as well, despite Goodman finishing the game with two picks. Not a whole lot of bad passes or dropped passes.

Special teams for Berry allowed them to stay in this game longer than the Mavericks probably would have liked. Kedrick Davis and Larry Gibson returned three kickoffs deep into Maverick territory, including one for a touchdown and another to the 1 yard line. Mallard Creek's defensive line overpowered Berry's offensive line, and would force the QB out of the pocket, which sometimes worked well for Berry because their QB was able to throw in the run very well. Mavericks defense seemed to be in the backfield a whole lot.

In the end, it looked as though Mallard Creek's speed, size, talent and physicality was just too much for Berry MC is a very fast, hard hitting team. Game could have been different, had it been played on Friday, but not exactly sure if that would have been a good thing for Berry or not, considering all the people I talked to from MC said it was a sloppy game for them.
