Three Second Half Scores Stymie Forestview’s Upset Bid
The Jaguars of Forestview are still searching for their first conference victory. At the start of the second quarter, it looked like Forestview was going to do just that. The Jaguars scored on their first drive in the second quarter with a Tory Ayers 15-yard pass to Preston Lyon. The kick after failed, however.
The Green Wave would not be denied on their home field and Gabe Beverly took advantage of an opening downfield and hit Ryan Gordon for a 59-yard touchdown pass. The Jaguars were not phased and kept pounding the ball on the ground mixed with a few pass plays. Forestview retook the lead with a Nathan Anderson one-yard run.
The Green Wave would take the lead right back with another Beverly-to-Gordon connection, this time from 43 yards. The score would stay 14-13 Ashbrook at half-time.
The Green Wave opened their playbook right up in the second half and Forestview could not find any answers. When the Green Wave got J. Boyd and FB Jordan Toomer more involved, the Jaguars could not seem to stop Ashbrook. In fact, the Green Wave’s first drive was capped off by a J. Boyd pass from Beverly to give the Green Wave a 21-13 lead.
Forestview was their own worst enemy on the ensuing drive. Forestview attempted a reverse play, but fumbled the ball and Ashbrook’s Patrick Reardon scooped up the loose ball for the touchdown to give the Green Wave a 28-13 lead. Gabe Beverly put the nail in the coffin in the fourth quarter with a one-yard run of his own to make the final 35-13.
The Green Wave will be off next week before their regular season finale at Hunter Huss for the traditional “Battle of the Bell” and Forestview will host the Huskies next week and finish off their regular season against East Gaston.
