Gaston and Lincoln Week 6 Pigskin Picks

Gaston and Lincoln Week 6 Picks

Game of the Week: North Lincoln(4-1) @ East Lincoln(3-2)

Both teams started the season 0-1, but have rebounded. The Knights have pitched three straight shut-outs. The Mustangs won three straight by four touchdowns or more. However, the Mustangs are coming off a 36-14 loss to undefeated Charlotte Christian. Look for the Mustangs to come into their conference opener against their rival with more intensity. East Lincoln is 4-0 in the series against the Knights. Could this be the year that North Lincoln breaks that trend?

By that matter, can anyone think of a better way to start conference play other than a tense rivalry that’s getting more tense?

My pick: East Lincoln 21 – North Lincoln 14

Ashbrook(2-3) @ Crest(4-0)

This should be a shootout. Crest has not lost a game this season, yet. The Green Wave however, started 0-3 but they are coming off of two impressive wins. Crest has struggled offensively in their first three games, but the Chargers are coming off a 45-18 win against Kings Mountain. The last time these two teams have met at Crest, the Green Wave snapped the Chargers long conference game winning streak that dated back to 1999 when Crest lost their conference opener back then.

The Chargers are looking for a different outcome, but the Green Wave usually shows up when the big games are on the line.

My pick: Crest 21 – Ashbrook 17

Hunter Huss(2-2) @ North Gaston(3-1)

North Gaston lost for the first time this year as they fell two points short against Charlotte Catholic. The Wildcats open up conference play at home against the Hunter Huss Huskies. Hunter Huss’s offense has scored more than 20 points in all of their five match-ups. However in three out of four of those games, Huss has allowed over 20. With the Wildcats offense being as explosive as they are, this is not the time to have a struggling defense. The Huskies will have to buckle down or find a way to keep A.J. Blue, Princeton Brooks and Co. off the field.

My pick: North Gaston 42 – Hunter Huss 21

East Gaston(0-4) @ South Point(4-0)

Fans over the past four years have looked forward to this match-up. However if you are an East Gaston fan, you have to be dreading it this year. The Warriors have had a brutal start going 0-4 and having to replace starters that have left the team or are injured. South Point, on the other hand, is clicking on all cylinders and is 4-0. Only one of their victories was close (25-15 win over Lincolnton). The others were won by 21 points or more including a 53-3 win over Kings Mountain.

This could be an accident waiting to happen barring a miracle for East Gaston.

My pick: South Point 52 – East Gaston 7

Forestview(3-1) @ Burns(1-3)

These two teams almost always play each other tough, but last year’s game saw no such competition. The Bulldogs went up 40-0 at half-time and the Jaguars never recovered as Burns won 53-0. Nevertheless, history is on the Jaguars’ side as they are 5-4 in the series against Burns and have never lost at Burns. Forestview is 3-1 while Burns is 1-3, but that can be deceiving. Burns played powerhouse teams in Crest, Ashbrook and South Point. South Point and Crest are undefeated. Forestview played first-year school Nation Ford out of Fort Mill, Kings Mountain and Waddell. All of those teams are winless. Forestview’s only challenge came against 4-0 Clover. The Blue Eagles won 34-0.

The Jaguars have shown improvement over last year but will Burns be more prepared due to a tougher schedule.

My pick: Forestview 28 – Burns 27

West Lincoln(1-3) @ Cherryville(3-1)

Cherryville started the season building on the momentum of their playoff run from last year. On the other hand, West Lincoln started the season 0-4 but finally got their first victory of the season last week as they blew out North Wilkes 44-0. The Ironmen unfortunately will have to do without the services of their starting QB Cameron Lovelace. He is serving a one-game suspension. That could hurt since the Rebels now have momentum on their side. This should still be a competitive conference opener between the two teams.

My pick: West Lincoln 20 – Cherryville 10

Lincolnton(1-4) @ South Iredell(2-3)

Lincolnton, like last year, had to start off with a rigorous nonconference schedule. The Wolves never really rebounded from that as they only won half of their conference games. This could be a much different Lincolnton team. Lincolnton usually does rebound when conference play comes around. South Iredell has also struggled over the past three weeks. This game could go either way.

My pick: Lincolnton 21 – South Iredell 7

Mount Zion Christian(3-2) @ Charlotte Latin(4-0)

Mount Zion will be going up against one of Charlotte’s best private schools. Look for another lopsided loss for the Bulldogs.

My pick: Charlotte Latin 49 – Mount Zion Christian 7

Westminster Catawba(0-4) @ Highland Tech(2-2)

Highland Tech got back into the winning column last week with a win over Fayetteville Christian. This game could push the Rams record over .500.

My pick: Highland Tech 35 – Westminster 14
