Mot's Bar-B-Que Augusta, GA

I always try to sample everything since I may never make it back to a place. Especially if I do not find something that I like. Mot’s is not a fancy place; of course most BBQ joints are not fancy! You walk in go to the counter order your food and carry it back to your table. Looking the menu over I saw they had ribs; didn’t state if they were spare or baby backs and pork.

There is a decent smell of smoke when you enter the recent so I thought this might be a good sign as it usually is. First thing I asked was; “What kind of ribs are they”. They kid behind the counter was confused so he asked the lady there. She told me, they are pork not beef. I told her sorry I meant are they baby back or spare ribs. I planned on ordering them regardless. He told me they were baby backs. So I order the ribs and pork and noticed they have hash… Hash seems to be more popular in South Carolina than North Carolina and apparently in Augusta too. Since I Like me some good hash I ordered that as well baked beans. I asked about the sauce and she told me it was on the table but they had a “vinegar” based sauce.

The pork is chopped. They don’t chop it as fine as Eastern NC BBQ is chopped. They pull it and chop it right there in front of you. So I sat down with my sweet tea to eat. Located the sauce and put a little on the pork. The sauce may have had vinegar in it, but it was a very small amount. The meat was decently smoked in Hickory, it was a bit dry but not too bad. The sauce I am not a big fan of. It seemed a bit sweet to me.

The ribs were overcooked and a bit dry. They still had a decent flavor and I was hungry so they were not a total loss.  Maybe it was just a bad day and I was there too late and the ribs were overcooked because it was the last of the evening. If I come back here again I might give them a second chance on the ribs.

The baked beans were “OK”.

The hash was the best thing I had. And before anyone goes and asks; no it is not hog head hash. Not the best hash I’ve had but pretty good,

I give it an Barbecue-san rating of 5.
