Mac's Speed Shop...

Last week The Spoon's family was on vacation and closed. That was OK as I was out of the country working most of the week. As I mentioned in the forums when ask, no I did not get a chance to BBQ in Mexico.

On Monday I was back in the office. Around about 1:30 my stomach started talking to me. It told me that Spoon's was open for business and to get over there NOW! So I headed over South Boulevard for cue only to find that Spoon's was closed. Apparently they had to prepare for opening on Tuesday!

OK now what to do? Jim 'N Nicks? No, I am not ready to give them another opportunity. How about Mac's? They were recently voted the second best BBQ in Charlotte. I tried several times in the past to make it here; however, it was always in the evening. Either the crowd was too large or the wife didn't want to get in the cigarette smoke that will probably be there. OK, this was a perfect opportunity to see what it is all about.

This late in the afternoon the crowd was light, there were several families in eating. I ordered my pulled pork along with potato salad and Brunswick stew. The potato salad was very good, the sweet was good and finally the stew was awesome. But what about the pork???

The pork was nice. It was smoked and had decent flavor to it.The sauce was a bit sweeter than I like but not bad. I can see why people like this BBQ. It is pulled not sliced, or chopped or minced. While I love Eastern NC style BBQ, I also like pulled pork.

Yes I recommend trying this place out. I will not pick it over Spoon's. However, if Spoon's is not available to me for whatever reason then this might be a good alternative.
