Jim 'N Nicks in Steele Creek opened on Tuesday as scheduled. Was it worth the wait?...
Kevin Skellett was in town helping me on an application so we went to Jim 'N Nicks for lunch. Let's start with the service. We were seated almost immediately. About five minutes later they took our drink order and brought out their cheese biscuits. OK things are going well. Next we give them our order which was very simple, pulled pork and creamy slaw for both of us; I had and potato salad and Kevin Had the collard greens because I had spoken highly of them from my visit to Jim 'N Nicks in Nashville. It took almost thirty minutes for our server to notice that we did not have our food. Another fifteen minutes later the manger comes by, brings us more cheese biscuits and then checks on our order. About five minutes later he comes out with the wrong order. They check on things and it appears our order was never sent back to the kitchen. Another ten minutes or so and we had our food.
First the sauces... as most know I am not a fan of thick sauces for pulled pork. They had a sweet sauce and a sweet sauce with habanero in it. The pulled pork was cold; Kevin said it must have come straight out of the refrigerator. They serve their pork with a pickle, I like the touch. The pork we had was not smoked very well. I am hoping this is the result of us possibly getting "test pig" meat. The meat had no real flavor other than what the sauce provided.
The potato salad was "OK". The creamy slaw is not so creamy but it wasn't too bad. Kevin complained that the greens were a bit coarse, maybe not cooked enough to his liking.
