For the sheer fun of it, I decided to look at a new realignment should we have a realignment every two years.  The NCHSAA does a realignment every 4 years so this is just for fun since the next realignment is a few years away.  Again...this is just for the fun of it but might give you an idea about where teams might land come 2021.

My thoughts are based mostly on the 2017 ADM's with allowances for certain items (for example, Oak Grove in Davidson County will take some students from nearby schools).  In addition, I've based my thoughts on the current 20/30/30/20 model.

4A

Ardrey Kell
Olympic
South Meck
Providence
West Meck
Harding
Berry Academy

Note:  So. Meck 7 remains the same

Myers Park
Independence
Garinger
Butler
East Meck
Rocky River
Porter Ridge

Marvin Ridge

Note:  the Southwestern Conference adds Marvin Ridge to the mix.

Mallard Creek
Hough
North Meck
Vance
Hopewell
West Charlotte

Note:  The I-Meck loses Lake Norman and Mooresville due to another problem.  Another school from the Southwestern Conference could be added.

Garner
Fuquay
Middle Creek
Friendship
Holly Springs
Apex
South Garner

Note:  Add South Garner to the mix.

Green Hope
Panther Creek
Cary
Athens Drive
Jordan
Riverside
Hillside

Note:  Hillside moves to 4A.

Enloe
Broughton
Leesville Road
Millbrook
Sanderson
Cardinal Gibbons
Southeast Raleigh

Note:  Status quo.

Wake Forest
Rolesville
Wakefield
Heritage
Clayton
Corinth Holders
Knightdale

Note:  Clayton moves to 4A.

West Forsyth
Reagan
Reynolds, RJ
East Forsyth
Parkland
Northwest Guilford
Page
Grimsley
Southwest Guilford

Note:  This conference essentially adds the All-Metro and the Central Piedmont together.  I moved Davie County to another conference.  Southwest Guilford moves to 4A while High Point Central and Ragsdale move to 3A.

Hoke
Richmond
Pinecrest
Lumberton
Jack Britt
South View
Overhills
Pine Forest

Note:  This is essentially the Sandhills Conference plus the 4A portion of the Patriot Conference.  Scotland, 71st, and Purnell Swett move to 3A.

3A/4A Conference

4A
Laney
Ashley
Hoggard
New Bern
3A
South Brunswick
North Brunswick
New Hanover
Topsail
West Brunswick

Note:  I've added New Bern to what is not the Mideastern Conference.  With South Central moving to 3A, there was no other conference for New Bern.

4A
South Caldwell
McDowell
3A
Hickory
Freedom
St. Stephens
Alexander Central
Watauga

Note:  West Caldwell leaves the 3A/4A Northwestern and moves to 2A.

4A
Lake Norman
Mooresville
South Iredell
Davie County
3A
Statesville
Carson Jesse
West Rowan
North Iredell

Note:  This is the rebirth of the 3A/4A NPC.  East Rowan moves to 2A, South Iredell moves to 4A.  Lake Norman and Mooresville leaves the I-Meck.  Davie County leaves the Central Piedmont.

3A Conferences:

Cox Mill
Hickory Ridge
Central Cabarrus
West Cabarrus
Brown, A.L
Robinson, Jay
Concord
Northwest Cabarrus

Note:  Welcome to the revamped SPC.  I have Hickory Ridge moving to 3A (due to new high school and student shifts...we'll see if I'm remotely correct).  West Cabarrus will be a new school.

Seventy First
Cape Fear
Gray's Creek
Byrd, Douglas
Sanford, Terry
Purnell Swett
Scotland
Westover
Smith, E.E.

Note:  eliminated the 3A/4A Patriot Conference.  There will be 7 Cumberland County schools plus Scotland and Purnell Swett.  Not a big fan of Purnell Swett in this conference but the choices were very limited.

Cleveland
West Johnston
East Wake
Smithfield-Selma
South Johnston
Harnett Central
Western Harnett
Triton

Note:  Pretty much a Johnston County-Harnett County conference along with East Wake.

Conley, D.H
South Central
Rose, JH
Aycock, CB
Eastern Wayne
Southern Wayne

Note:  With South Central going to 3A, I eliminated a split conference.  This conference is the same as the current conference except New Bern moves away.

Northern Durham
Chapel Hill
Southern Durham
East Chapel Hill
Vance County
Orange
Cedar Ridge

Note:  I could add Person County to this conference but elected not to do so.  Vance County will join the mix while Northwood goes to a new conference.

Jacksonville
West Carteret
Havelock
Swansboro
Northside Jax
White Oak

Note:  status quo.

Mount Tabor
Ragsdale
Glenn
Western Guilford
North Forsyth
High Point Central

Note:  essentially a Forsyth County/western Guilford conference.

Cuthbertson
Sun Valley
Piedmont
Forest Hills
Charlotte Catholic
Weddington
Parkwood
Monroe

Note:  Forest Hills moves from 2A to this conference while Marvin Ridge goes to 4A.

Montgomery Central
Northwood
Union Pines
Lee County
Southern Lee
Asheboro

Note:  This conference is somewhat a morphed Tar Heel Conference from decades past.

Eastern Guilford
Southeast Guilford
Williams, Walter
Smith, Ben
Dudley
Southern Guilford
Southern Alamance

Note:  pretty much a revamped Mid-Piedmont Conference.

Northeast Guilford
Eastern Alamance
Western Alamance
Rockingham County
Northern Guilford
Person

Note:  Wanted Person could move to the Orange/Durham conference with some other movements.

Reynolds, AC
Asheville
Roberson, TC
Erwin, Clyde
Enka
North Buncombe
West Henderson
North Henderson

Note:  Tuscola moves to 2A.

Ashbrook
Huss, Hunter
South Point
North Gaston
Kings Mountain
Forestview
Crest

Note:  South Point replaces Cramer.  Burns and Cramer head to 2A.

Fike

Rocky Mount
Northern Nash
Southern Nash

Note:  Status quo.

2A:

Ashe County
West Wilkes
North Wilkes

West Stokes
North Surry
Forbush

Note:  A combination of the 1A/2A Mountain Valley and the 2A Western Piedmont.

North Davidson
Oak Grove
Central Davidson
Ledford
Thomasville
West Davidson
East Davidson
Lexington

Note:  I moved Salisbury and South Rowan out of the Central Carolina.

Salisbury
East Rowan
West Stanly
Mount Pleasant
Anson
South Rowan

Note:  Not the prettiest conference, but it's workable.  Anson and Salisbury/East Rowan were in the same conference back in the 1980's so this has worked before.

East Duplin
Wallace-Rose Hill
Clinton
Midway
Richlands
Croatan
Trask, Heide
Dixon
Southwest Onslow

Note:  Eliminated the 1A/2A Coastal 8 conference.  This would be a doozy of a 2A football conference.

Cramer Stuart
Burns
R-S Central
East Gaston
Shelby
Chase
East Rutherford

Note:  Another fun conference with Cramer and Burns replacing South Point.

North Pitt
North Johnston
Southwest Edgecombe
Nash Central
Farmville Central
Beddingfield
Washington

Note:  Washington rejoins the Eastern Plains.

Pisgah
Tuscola
Franklin
Smoky Mountain
East Henderson
Hendersonville
Brevard

Note:  Tuscola moves from 3A to 2A.

Jordan-Matthews
Southwestern Randolph
Wheatmore
Randleman
Trinity
Eastern Randolph
Providence Grove
Carrboro

Note:  moved Carrboro away from the 2A Midstate.  Southwestern Randolph moves from 3A to 2A.  Moved High Point Andrews to another conference.

Pasquotank

Note:  Status quo.

Maiden
Bandys
West Lincoln
Lincolnton
Lake Norman Charter

Note:  Status quo.

McMichael
Graham
Cummings
Morehead
Reidsville
Yancey, Bartlett
Andrews, T.W.

Note:  After Reidsville has suffered for many years due to weak conference play, they finally have some good competition with the addition of TW Andrews.  Morehead and McMichael join the mix.  Carrboro leaves.

West Craven
Ayden-Grifton
North Lenoir
Kinston
South Lenoir
Greene Central
Goldsboro
Spring Creek

Note:  Washington leaves the Eastern Carolina for the Eastern Plains.  Goldsboro and Spring Creek join the conference.

Hibriten
West Caldwell
Patton
Foard, Fred T.
East Burke
West Iredell
Bunker Hill

Note:  Draughn moves to 1A.  West Caldwell moves from 3A to 2A.

2A
St. Pauls
West Bladen
Whiteville
South Columbus
Red Springs

1A
Avery
Mitchell
Polk

Note:  status quo.

2A
Roanoke Rapids
Bunn

North Rowan

Note:  This is mish-mash of different schools in the same geographic location.

1A:

North Stanly
North Moore
Albemarle
South Stanly
Chatham Central
South Davidson
Union Academy

Note:  West Montgomery will be part of Montgomery Central.  North Rowan goes to a 1A/2A split conference.  Union Academy rejoins conference.

Columbia
Manteo
Camden County
Holmes
Perquimans
Gates County
Washington County
Tarboro

Note:  This might be the best 1A conference in the state with Washington County (formerly Plymouth and Creswell), Tarboro, and Holmes in the same conference.

Murphy
Swain
Rosman
Robbinsville
Cherokee
Andrews
Hayesville

Note:  Status quo.

Jones
Pamlico
Northside
Southside
Lejeune

Note:  Added Lejeune and East Carteret to the conference.  Moved Tarboro out of conference.

East Bladen
Kenan, James
Princeton
Hobbton
Union
Pender
Lakewood

Note:  East Bladen and James Kenan move from 2A to 1A.  Pender leaves the 1A/2A Coastal 8 and joins this conference.

Northampton County
Rocky Mount Prep
KIPP Pride
Weldon
Southeast Halifax
Northwest Halifax
North Edgecombe
Bear Grass

Note:  Moved Bear Grass out of the Atlantic 6 (err...Atlantic 5 with only 2 squads fielding football teams).  Bear Grass could move to several different conferences.

Draughn, Jimmy
Pine Lake Prep
Bessemer City
Mountain Island Charter
Cherryville
Highland
Community School
Thomas Jefferson

Note:  Jimmy Draughn moves from 2A to 1A.  Union Academy hightails it out of the conference.

Mount Airy
East Surry
South Stokes
North Stokes
Starmount
Elkin
East Wilkes
Alleghany

Note:  Moved the 1A schools from the 1A/2A Mountain Valley to the Northwest.  Winston-Salem Prep and Bishop McGuinness move to a 1A/2A split conference.

Hickory is near the 2A/3A line. Their ADM is less than 50 over the line right now.
