The Rocky River Conference was first formed in 1962.  1962 also coincided with the consolidations that had occurred in Stanly and Union County.  The 1962 members (all 2A members):

Forest Hills

Piedmont

Mount Pleasant

Hartsell

Winecoff

West Stanly

North Stanly 

South Stanly

Anson (old Anson high)

 

In 1963, Sun Valley, Harrisburg, and Parkwood would join the Rocky River Conference.

 

In 1966, North Stanly would bolt to the WNCHSAA.  In addition, Hartsell, Winecoff, and Harrisburg would consolidate with Odell (non-football team) to form NW Cabarrus and Central Cabarrus.

The 1966 members:

 

Forest Hills 

Piedmont

Sun Valley

Parkwood

South Stanly

West Stanly

Mount Pleasant

NW Cabarrus

Central Cabarrus

Anson 

 

In 1967, Monroe would join the mix.  Anson and Wadesboro would consolidate into Bowman High School (now Anson County High School).  

1968, Bowman would leave the conference.

By 1969, the Rocky River was a 2A/3A Conference.  Here is the 1969 RRC:

2A:

South Stanly 

Piedmont

Parkwood

Forest Hills

Mount Pleasant

3A:

Central Cabarrus

NW Cabarrus

Monroe

Sun Valley

West Stanly

 

In 1973, Charlotte Catholic would join the RRC.  Here is the 2A/3A breakdown for the 1973-77 realignment:

Charlotte Catholic

Monroe

Piedmont

Parkwood

Sun Valley

West Stanly

South Stanly

Mount Pleasant

3A:

NW Cabarrus

Central Cabarrus

Sun Valley

In 1977, NW Cabarrus, Central Cabarrus, Sun Valley, and Forest Hills would leave the RRC.  The 1977-81 Conference would be strictly 2A:  Here is the 1977 member list:

Monroe

Piedmont

Parkwood

West Stanly

South Stanly

Mount Pleasant

Charlotte Catholic

For 1981, North Stanly, Albemarle, and Forest Hills would leave the 3A SPC and join the Rocky River Conference.  Monroe would leave the Rocky River Conference and join the SPC.  Here is the 1981 2A RRC member list:

Charlotte Catholic

Mount Pleasant.

 

For 1985-1989, Monroe would replace Forest Hills as a Rocky River member.  The remaining 8 teams would remain the same.

For 1989-1993, Forest Hills would re-join the RRC.  South Stanly would leave for the 1A Tar Heel Conference.  Here is the 1989 RRC members:

North Stanly

South Stanly

Albemarle

Forest Hills

Monroe

Piedmont

Parkwood

Mount Pleasant

Charlotte Catholic

 

In 1993, the Rocky River would not exist.  North Stanly, Albemarle, West Stanly, and Mount Pleasant would join the 2A Yadkin Valley Conference.  Charlotte Catholic would join the 2A Western Piedmont.  Monroe, Forest Hills, Piedmont, and Parkwood would join the 3A Old Hickory Conference.

In 1997, the Rocky River Conference would exist once more.  Charlotte Catholic, Monroe, Forest Hills, West Stanly, Parkwood, and Mount Pleasant would be Rocky River members.

For 2001, North Stanly and West Montgomery would join the Rocky River Conference.  Parkwood would head out and join the 3A SPC.  The 2001 2A Rocky River Conference roster was as follows:

Charlotte Catholic

Monroe

Forest Hills

North Stanly

West Stanly

West Montgomery

Mount Pleasant

In 2005, the Rocky River would become a 1A/2A Conference.  Charlotte Catholic would join the 3A/4A Queen City Conference.  West Montgomery would join the 1A Yadkin Valley Conference.  Albemarle and South Stanly would join as 1A members.

In 2007, Central Academy would join the RRC as a 1A member.

In 2009, South Stanly and Albemarle would leave the Rocky River Conference and join the Yadkin Valley Conference.  Mount Pleasant would leave and join the 3A SPC.  Berry Academy, Union Academy, Piedmont and Cuthbertson would join the RRC.  Here is the 2009 1A/2A RRC roster:

In 2011, Berry Academy would leave and join the 3A-4A MeGa 7 Conference as a 3A member.

In 2013, more change occurred.  Cuthbertson and Piedmont left the conference  and joined the 3A Southern Carolina Conference.  North Stanly and Union Academy would join the 1A Yadkin Valley Conference.  Mount Pleasant and Parkwood would re-join the conference.  For the 2013-2017 realignment, the Rocky River Conference would be strictly 2A.  Here was the 2013 RRC roster:

In 2017, Parkwood and Monroe would join the 3A Southern Carolina Conference.  East Montgomery would leave the 1A Yadkin Valley Conference and Anson County would leave the 3A Southern Carolina Conference and join the Rocky River Conference.
