4 Replies and 271 Views New schools and consolidations equates to a changing in NCHSAA membership  271  4 Started by  Jim West In 2018, we will see some changes in NCHSAA football membership.  Here are the changes for 2018:   East Chapel HIll will have a football team.  In 2017, due to lack of numbers, East Chapel Hill canceled its season. Central Academy will not have a football team. Southern Vance and Northern Vance will consolidate to form Vance County High School. Creswell and Plymouth will consolidate to form Washington County High School. Oak Grove will play its first varsity footb...

0 Replies and 119 Views Instant replay and high school football: will the two collide in North Carolina?  119  0 Started by  Jim West A few days ago, the Alabama High School Athletics Association (AHSAA) approved the use of instant replay beggining this fall in Alabama high school football.   Wait, hold up!  The AHSAA is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations, and the Federation does not permit its association members from using instant replay!  So why did the AHSAA get to adopt instant replay  The Federation granted a three year waiver to allow instant replay in Alab...

2 Replies and 413 Views The importance of a Junior Varsity squad  413  2 Started by  Jim West In many areas in North Carolina, high school football is thriving!  You can head out east on Highway 64 and check out the Tarboro Vikings.  You can go another hour and watch the Plymouth Vikings (or whatever the new consolidated school will be named).  You can head to Elizabeth City and see my buddy Antonio Moore&39;s team, the Northeastern Eagles.  You can head towards Morehead City and check out East Carteret.  Or you can go to New Bern or Havelock.  You can head...

10 Replies and 917 Views Hiring Football Coaches in North Carolina  917  10 Started by  Dale Ross Each season we talk about which positions might become or have become available. Something I’ve noticed in CMS, and I wonder if it is true outside of CMS is the number of applicants with experience applying.   From the available jobs in CMS last season, there were only a handful of applicants with Head Coach experience – many of them hired -; and very few coordinators qualified to take over as a head coach. Several programs had difficult times finding qualified coordinator...

8 Replies and 850 Views What would a true 25/25/25/25 realignment look like?  850  8 Started by  Jim West Okay, I don&39;t know but you, but right now I&39;m not a big fan of the 20/30/30/20 realignment.  In fact, it&39;s a hot mess. I was playing around with what a true 25/25/25/25 model would look like if the non-football teams were not part of the model but would be added back in after the football teams are aligned.  In my model, we would have exactly 95 teams in 1A, 95 in 2A, 95 in 3A, and 95 in 4A.  Here&39;s what it looks like based on 2016 ADM&39;s:   ...

We are seeing more Charter Schools pop up, and I&39;m expecting more. Since we&39;re about athletics here, we&39;re interes, ted in the impact on Athletics. However, any thoughts on Charter schools are welcome. One comment made in conversation is that they are their own LEA. However, many "pubic" schools are their own LEA... One School county, control. One school in a county with other schools but wanting their own control.
